Each Way Calc

About and method

Each Way Calc is a free calculator for checking what an each-way bet on a horse race should return. It doesn't take bets and isn't linked to any bookmaker.

How bets are settled

The stake you enter is split into a win part and a place part of the same size (or treated as the stake for each part, if you leave the total-stake box unticked).

  • Win part, if the horse wins: stake + stake × win odds.
  • Place part, if the horse wins or places: stake + stake × win odds × place fraction.
  • Rule 4: the winnings on each part are multiplied by (100 − deduction) ÷ 100. Stakes are returned in full.
  • Dead heat: the stake on the affected part is divided by the number of horses tied, and that share is settled at full odds. The rest of that part's stake is lost.

Odds can be typed as fractions (11/4 or 11-4), as "evens", or in decimal (3.75). Returns are rounded to the nearest penny.

Place terms

The race helper uses the standard UK terms: win only below 5 runners, 1/4 odds for two places with 5 to 7 runners, 1/5 odds for three places with 8 or more, and 1/4 odds for three or four places in big handicaps. Bookmakers often improve these, so the terms on your slip always win. Checked 25 October 2026.
